Round 2? Favre
Childress: Vikings will probably talk about Favre
LINK
Quote:
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP)—Brett Favre says he’s retired, but Minnesota coach Brad Childress acknowledges it’s likely the Vikings will at least assess their interest in the record-setting quarterback later in the offseason.
Childress declined on Friday to directly answer a question about whether he plans to speak to Favre soon. The coach said he has been too busy with the NFL draft and the team’s rookie minicamp.
Favre asked for and received his release from the Jets earlier this week. The 39-year-old Favre left his future open with the disclaimer “at this time” in a statement affirming his retirement.
The Packers filed tampering charges against the Vikings last summer, alleging inappropriate contact with Favre while he was waffling again on his retirement. The league dismissed the case.
Asked whether the team discussed the possibility of pursuing Favre now that he’s a free agent, Childress said no.
“We haven’t. It doesn’t mean we won’t,” Childress said. “We talk about everything, from what’s going on in the United States on the front page today. … So, yeah, I’m sure we’ll talk about that.”
After watching Favre’s unretirement controversy and subsequent trade to the Jets become a major distraction in training camp last year, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t want to get sucked into another potential offseason saga this time around.
“If Brett wants to play football, he should play football,” McCarthy said Friday. “And that’s really my stance on it. I mean, if he still wants to play, he should take advantage of his opportunities.”
McCarthy, who is leading the Packers’ rookie orientation program this weekend, didn’t want to comment on the Jets’ decision to grant Favre his release — earning a few laughs from reporters in the process.
“The what-ifs and the hypothetical stories, you know, I thought maybe you guys would give me a bye this year,” McCarthy said. “I did such a good job last year.”
For now, the Vikings are moving forward with Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and John David Booty at quarterback, a spot that has been unsettled since Childress took the job in 2006.
“I’m more focused on the guys that are here, participating in the offseason program,” Childress said. “I’m more focused on our three quarterbacks right now—Tarvaris and Sage and J.D.—that are progressing through this program.”

Well now, given The Favre's past history of events, and the fact that he asked for his release from the Jets, not once, but TWICE, could very well lead people to speculate he wants to un-retire yet again, and since Minny is where he really wanted to go last time...well...stands to reason that there's that possibility. Why, if you're "retired" from the game, would one beg for their release? There's something going on, whether it be to play for the Vikings or to try and bilk that $20 Million "marketing" contract from Green Bay, but I can almost guarantee he's testing the waters. And I hasve no facts to prove that, other than a gut feeling and past tendencies, so, yeah, it's just my opinion, and mine smells just as rosey as anyone else's! lol

Partially agree. However, Favre has left open the possibility of him coming playing next season.
Plus, after last year, how can you argue that you're not tired of hearing about Favre? Rather he plays or not people are tired of hearing about him.

I could care less what Farve does, infact it's a shame he wont be a QB in the NFC East...we could use the picks lol. Seriously he'd make a great back up for anybody but unless he goes to a complete offensive team with a defense to boot he wont do anybody any favors as the starter.

OMG!!!! I just had a most distrubing thought........
Given The Danny's love of Big Names, and his desire for another QB, on top of the fact that he is an idiot; I am petrified that he may want to go after The Favre.
Somebody! Anybody! Please kick me in the nads and tell me it's only a bad bad nightmare! AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

This time of year, the media is desperate for anything reembling a story... This is a non-issue until camp and THEN it will be a circus as the Vikings indeed try to draw him out of "retirement". I was a huge Favre fan in the 90s, and while he annoys me now, this isn't a big deal... No matter what he did there would be some kind of offseason story.

He does need a QB. So I can kinda understand his POV. But Favre could put this all to rest very easily. But he has left open the possibility for him to return yet again.

If Farve comes comes back, does that mean his number one fan (John Madden) will unretire also?
