I hit the new Driver well today but other than that I sucked. I can't even count the number of putts I had lip out today. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to go right and I don't think I ever felt comfortable...It might've had something to do with being pretty hungover
I met the pro at the course I played today (Heron Ridge) and I decided to take lessons with him after seeing how much one of the guys I play with improved after taking lessons from this guy. Apparently he is one of the best instructors in the area so I'm looking forward to getting started.

Glad to hear it wasn't the driver.
My putting was on today. I only 3 putted once today and it was at the end of the round. It had plagued me in my last couple of rounds but I worked on it.
I'm still inconsistent with the driver though. I played today with a guy who played in school and he made driving look easy. Straight and long. He shot a 73 at Patuxent Greens which has water hazards on about 15 of the 18 holes.

One of the guys that played yesterday plays like that. He was in the group in front of me but we had a 5 dollar side bet using handicaps. He's a 5 and I'm a 16. Anyway I played so bad I just walked up to him and handed him 5 dollars and told him I don't even need to know what you shot...ends up he shot a 73 too and kicked my arse even with the 11 strokes.
I talked to the pro this morning and I am all set to start a set of 5 lessons this Saturday. I hope it works.
BTW...I love that Driver. The only thing is, I'm thinking I should have gotten a lower loft. I'm going to try to tee it down some next time. The ball went far, it was pretty high though so I think I left some yards on the course.

I got out and hit my second bucket of balls at the range this season. I still haven't been on a course yet, but the way I was hitting the balls today, I was wishing I was out there. I might try to sneak out for 9 tomorrow if things go my way in the morning.

What was the best advice you were told or read about your golf swing?
Id have to say keeping the right elbow tucked in. Had trouble takin the club outside on the takeawy, lettin the elbow fly out, and comin dead across the ball creating a wicked slice and this advice cured it instantly. Not to mention shortening the swing and hittin it pure 1000 times more often. Right when it feels like I have to separate my elbow from my right side to extend the swing I know that's my trigger point and I just fire away from there. Looking at my swing in a mirror I see with my shoulder turn it equates to about an 85% swing relative to being parallel at the top. I noticed that if I get my shoulder turn to where my left shoulder is under my chin it would equate to a parallel swing.

Went out today and fixed my slice. Turns out I now have a good 20 yard hook to figure out.
On the upside. I learned to play a course from the left side of the hole. That was new.

Well Sawgrass was a beautiful place and it ate me up. I was playing okay until 14 and I lost it. My right bicep was sore the next day but that's not my excuse. I just couldn't strike the ball. No, I did not hit 17 on my first try but I got it on from the drop zone which was at the ladies' tees.
We got a huge downpour for about 15 minutes after number 5 and the work they did on the drainage was the most amazing thing I have seen. There was not one puddle on the fairways or greens and it played true still. They spent a million a hole on the drainage and it was like a pro baseball field.
All in all it was a great place to play and it was a good time with my wife and my brothers. The theater of it all is bigger at Pebble Beach in my opinion. Our next course is Pinehurst No. 2 or Bethpage Black. Hopefully it won't take as long as the break from Pebble to this week.

I'm left-handed but know exactly what you're talking about. I make sure I keep my left elbow close to my body and like you, I release when I feel it is going up. I've never had a full back swing and the pro I had with my lesson said I didn't it.

Glad to hear you had fun. I hope to play a couple of these course. I had a friend play Oakmont and he said it ate him alive. He said he hit good tee shots but his approaches were terrible.

I saw the pro today for my first lesson. First thing he did was to adjust my left hand grip to a stronger position. He also had me position the ball further back in my stance. He is trying to get me to draw the ball about 5 yards so he actually wanted to see some hooks from me and make sure I concentrate on rolling my arms over on the through swing. Once I get that down he wants me to finish my swing path to the right of the target so it draws back on target.
He said hitting a straight shot is like hitting the lottery and it is much easier to curve the ball in. He told me I was picking it up fast and that he thinks I can have a single digit handicap by the end of the season (I'm currently a 16)...of course this was before I'd given him any money so maybe he was just trying to hype me up for more lessons. I'd already planned to pay for 5 (and did) so hopefully he wasn't BSing me. I'm willing to try anything at this point to get better.

Over the weekend, I went to get my clubs fitted at Golf Galaxy. They had me hit some shots and I was toeing everything. He then had me hit off of this plastic surface which measures the club's lie. The result is I need my clubs modified 2 degrees upright. I also need to switch to stiff shafts for my irons. He said the toeing was a swing flaw but correctable.
I asked about re-shafting the clubs with stiff ones and they recommended I get a new set because the cost of reshafting them would be close to the cost of a new set. The clubs I have are a little over a year old. They do offer trade in values and were going to give me $150 for my irons which is half of what I paid for them. They didn't have the clubs I swing now in left hand and the others were a bit too expensive right now.
I was sortof confused because I went the driving range afterwards and spoke with the pro there. They gave me some impact tape for my irons and all of my shots were right in the dead middle of the clubface. I do know that I have been toeing though because my shots are drifting left.
We'll see but I'm probably on the lookout for new clubs with stiff irons.

Played two courses in Ocean City this weekend. War Admiral and Eagles Landing. I really liked war admiral. Lots of raised greens and built in slopes around the course. It really rewarded smart play and good shots. Penalized you for just missing the green by making your chip shots 10 feet up hill. I shot a 90 but only because the greens were awesome. I fully trusted them and made some putts.
Eagle's landing isn't bad. It's in great shape right now. For whatever reason I didn't putt well but I drove the ball nicely. Shot a 90 for the second straight day. Since it was a special occasion I splurged and bought a box of Pro-VIxs. That was a bad move, because now I really love those balls and they are expensive! I figure I will only use them on golf courses and holes that are wide open. I lost 3 on Saturday, which is not bad for an entire round but that's $12.
