Default Pitchman Billy Mays found dead at home

Quote:
TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa police say Billy Mays, the television pitchman known for his boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean, has died. He was 50.

Authorities say Mays was pronounced dead Sunday morning after being found by his wife at home. There were no signs of a break-in, and investigators do not suspect foul play. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.

Mays' wife, Deborah Mays, says the family doesn't expect to make any public statements and asked for privacy.

Mays was also featured on the reality TV show "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel, which followed Mays and Anthony Sullivan in their marketing jobs.

Discovery Channel spokeswoman Elizabeth Hillman released a statement Sunday extending sympathy to the Mays family.

"Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth," Hillman's statement said. "Billy was a pioneer in his field and helped many people fulfill their dreams. He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend."

When will Mark Sanford stop killing celebrities to keep himself out of the news?

I wonder if the networks and cable channels are capable of pulling all of his ads today in the spirit of good taste.

He injured his head yesterday as his airliner landed in Tampa. Sought no help for it. See TMZ.com

edit: Here's a new report. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-jZuHRGHhI

He can't seem to gather his thoughts. Keeps calling the landing a "hit" and can't find the words "overhead bin" and "carry on luggage."

that would simply be awful if he died as a result of a head injury

I know. He was just on Conan last week. I think the autopsy is Monday. Seemed like a heckuva nice guy.

I bet this kills Suli. Even though they gave each other crap all the time, you could tell they were great friends.

This had to have been a heart thing. That guy was clearly out of shape and was always getting himself hyped up about minor things.

He seemed a good guy, though. RIP.

He apparently was on a rough small plane flight yesterday and got hit in the head with a large piece of luggage. It could have been a hematoma like what killed Natasha Richardson.

Very possibly. Or, if he was on a flight yesterday, pulmonary embolism maybe?
