Default BurgundyNGold Glasses: Beggars and Hangers On

My latest brain dump. In this one, I point out the absurdity that is Larry Michael and question 10 years of silence by the people we have looked up to:

That article sums up the competency of the redskins FO quite nicely.

Great read. I think the Iraqi information minister comparison is spot on.

Good job, Milton. I was listening to Theisman on the radio last week and he could have replaced Michael with the unbelievable "yes, I am on the payroll" comments. That's what guys like Snyder do. They pay or promote people who might speak ill of him. Who is going to whip their cash cow?

I agree with you completely, however I think the pillars of Washington have been hoodwinked like the rest of us. I think they're homers who have always had hope that the talent on paper would translate into a winning franchise. Now it has become obvious that this will never happen. Hail Bmitch and Riggo!!!

i think that was a fine article.. on point in so many ways

the only point i would take issue with is your claim that guys like spurrier, gibbs, turner, marty, lewis, nolan and casserly were all screwed by Snyder.. nothing could be farther from the truth.. each and every one of them was royally compensated-- even in the face of failure.. each and every one of them (with the exception of gibbs) was not even remotely hurt by the time spent here.. all went on to have career advancement post their stints here.

turner served as head coach twice
casserly was named GM of the Texans
spurrier went back to the college game where he was named HC at south carolina
lewis was named to his first head coaching position at Cincy
marty was named HC at SD, and was then fired and replaced by turner !
nolan has continued at HC, and now DC

gibbs retired from the NFL
both Gibbs and Spurrier were said to have left money on the table when the left
Marty might STILL be cashing Snyder's checks for all we know.
Casserly and Snyder have (apparently) had a healing of the wound brought on by Snyder admitting he made a mistake
Turner has underwhelmed in his performances both here and elsewhere..he had 7 years to get it done in DC and failed.. if anything, he should have been fired long before Snyder canned him

you can make the assertion that Snyder set the table for the failure of ALL of those guys and you make a valid point.. but i disagree that he left any of those guys damaged

Larry Michael actually played the "anyone who criticizes is a Cowboys fan" card? Wow. Thats a new level of pathetic.

That's the part I don't understand. None of these guys are poor. They don't *need* to compromise principle for a paycheck. And Theismann has been covering the league for the better part of 20 years. He knows where at least some of the bodies are buried.

BMitch has never been beholden to anyone. I appreciate that. He still tells it like he thinks it is. You have to respect that.

Riggo does the same to a lesser extent, although he held back a whole lot once he started working for Snyder. You can tell the different between when he worked for Snyder and when he didn't.

Oh, it's worse than that. Check out this slurpy bit about Vinny:

It's disgusting.

Excellent blog, once again.

I would exclude Riggo from the list of the people who refrain from having a go at Snyder. He has been highly critical of him for as long as I can recall. Maybe he wasn't always been that way, but if I remember correctly Riggo has been pretty critical of Snyder at least dating back to the 70th anniversary season when he refused to attend the Skins GOAT team because he thought the 70th anniversary stuff was just a money making scam devised by Snyder.

This line killed me:

Quote:
Most Dallas fans are nice, albeit disillusioned people with a propensity for mullets. But if you put the whole lot of them into FedEx Field (which happens every year, thanks to Stub Hub) you wouldn’t be able to exactly power The Matrix. You might be able to power a Nintendo game system with the mental power they collectively produced. But not one of those fancy Wii systems. More like a Gameboy. If you disabled bluetooth.
Well played

I wonder what Frank Herzog's opinion on the whole situation is? He obviously has no internal insight to the workings of the organization(if you can call it that), but would be interested to hear his take on the state of the Redskins.
