Default Stephen Davis

Ok he's busting big runs, he looks very light on his feet and he's in the best shape I've seen him since 99. Anyone else willing to admit what Kenny, myself and some others have been saying since he left? We're freakin idiots!!! Canidate and Betts are are just as good? BS! He wouldn't have fit the system? BS! Plus, for a power back who isn't fast, he must be getting 60 carries a game cause he only has over 500 yards over 4 games!!!!! If Spurrier isn't a dodo and realizes what a special player he has, Stephen would have renegotiated and we would have an offense better then the we did in 99. To me this will always be a black mark on Spurrier's record, no matter how well he does here.

davis tearing up the league, but he has too. carolina and passing is an oxy moron. he would not be receiving 30 carries a game here thus his production would be down. i still stand by that although i was sad to see him go, it was the best decision for the redskins to make.

LadynRedskinsfan if you would have looked at the stats yesterday, Davis got the majority of his yards after just about 20 carries. The fact that we can pass would have only helped him here because he can get some big plays on the ground. The fact that Carolina only run just shows even more what a huge mistake we made. He would have only been better in a balanced attack.

I do not remember who but someone laughed at me when I said he would have a 1500 yard and 15 td season. The 1500 looks right on and atleast 10 tds at this rate

The front office are shamefull morons for letting him go and people need to realize that. Sometimes when you make a mistake of this proportion that has this much impact, it's hard to move on and look and the bright side. Canidate and Betts have been a nice suprise but even considering comparing to Stephen Davis or even speaking about them in the same sentence is down right comedic. Right now they may be doing a nice job in this system and in the future both of them may turn out to be solid every down backs, but right now Stephen Davis would have done more for this offense then Betts and Canidate can dream of.

I would LOVE to still have Davis, but which free agents would you let go to keep him - Coles, Hall, Thomas, Morton, Upshaw ...

NO.

1) Carolina paid him less than half what we paid him.
2) Terry Allen ourperformed Davis with a worse line. And I was all for letting TA go when he wanted the money. Same goes for Davis too.
3) That goes double, cause Terry Allen didn't fumble. Lost track of the Dallas wins Davis fumbled away. In my book Terry Allen was more clutch when you needed it and Davis, while getting great stats, could be stuffed in the clutch.

Its a great argument though

He would have taken a cut if Spurrier would have focused the offense on him or even play balanced like he is this year. That's all it would have taken.

I agree that he fumbled too much,i also agree that he was making too much$ and no two ways about it we wouldnt have our current young FA nucleus. However he could've been great in this offense with the balanced attack we now display. We would have had our own"tripletts"and we would be hard to game plan for.But alas theres no turning back now.

He has put up MVP type numbers in these first few games. And Carolina's passing game is not nearly as potent as our's. It's scary to think of what he could have done for us this year.

Hold up a second here. Davis is running a storm, yes. And he's [utting up great numbers, I'll give you that. But let's pause and think for a moment.

Carolina has the second-best defense in the league. I'm not willing to put them above Tampa yet, even with last night's loss, but it's getting damn close. The total amount of points scored on Carolina thus far in the entire season: 48. We've allowed 33 in one game (to the same Atlanta team that scored three against the Panthers, I might add). That kind of defensive play naturally favors a power running-oriented offense. If Davis were still a Redskins, even with John Fox calling the plays I guarantee you he wouldn't have the same stats. "But he had a 100-yard game against Jacksonville, and that was high-scoring," you say. Very well. Let me point out two things. One, Davis was used plenty in the first half until the Jags scored two late second-quarter touchdowns, and then Delhomme came in and began his miracle comeback. Davis was also used in the fourth when Carolina was within a touchdown of the lead. Two, it was Jacksonville. Come on now. Not exactly a staunch defense.

My point is, in the high-scoring games we seem to play every week now, Davis wouldn't be playing quite the same game. We need to go vertical sometimes, especially when we're down by 17, 18, or 11 points. It's just how things are. Let's also throw in the fact that we have the best big play offense in the nFL. That's right, by the standard NFL definition of a big play being any play that goes for more than 20 yards, the Redskins have the most of any team in the league. Davis may have broken a couple good-sized runs so far as a Panther, but he's not a big play guy. And only by getting rid of him did we get the weapons that have given us that offense.

That may be the best argument of all, actually. Face it, Davis was gonna take up a huge amount of cap space. You can say he would have renegotiated, you can say Spurrier should have tried to ease him into a lower salary, but the fact is that we saw the signs of a frustrated player not willing to negotiate and wanting to leave last season. Would you rather have Davis, or Coles, Thomas, Hall, and Morton? I know my answer.

I love stephen davis the guy is a workhorse. I'll never forget the years he spent here, he did a helluva job. I still don't think that he would fit the system here. Is he a good running back? yes. Would he work here? maybe. Was he making too much money? yes.

While Davis may have 500 some rushing yards, he has more rushing yards than his entire team has passing yards. I kid you not.
