This is great news as pointed out by mugaf3. Read about mugaf3s assessment in prior posts.

My only question is why now after the draft?
Very very good news, hopefully no more late round fullbacks.

FO changes almost always happen now, after the draft.
When a new GM, team president or head coach comes in (usually in January), they usually want their own people in the top FO positions, but it is counterproductive to make changes in January, because at that point teams are knee-deep in free agency and draft prep which begins in less than 2 months. All the scouts and FO people have done all of their in-game scouting and are writing reports. If they were fired, they could take their knowledge of the teams pro and college scouting for that year's free agent and draft classes and write reports for another team.

For these reasons (and I am sure for others as well), FO changes are almost always done right after the draft, when the FO is in kind of a lull period. In fact, I think FO personnel and scouts' contracts are written with a May 1st expiration date for that reason. t will be interesting to see if Allehan keeps anybody and what kind of new hires there are to our scouting department.

This is an accurate assessment. It does no good to clean house between September and April when the scouts are in the middle of their cycle. I expected that in May or June, we'd see wholesale changes. In fact, I don't know why Shanny wouldn't clean house in the scouting department. Who wants the keep most of the guys around who produced the current roster? The only exception I might make is the guy who works out West who found Horton and Mitchell. But you have to supplement him. Having only 4 regional scouts is a crime.

I have not understood why Scouting was not given more attention and $$. When Gibbs was brought in I thought he would change this but it didn't happen. With all of the concern about the salary cap why not spend money to find the best players available?

Another area that seemed to get second shift was conditioning. Redskin players seemed to have lots of hamstring and other conditioning related injuries. Another area where $$ don't count towards the cap and make you more competitive.

I am hoping to see huge changes in scouting and I hope the changes in the conditioning program also pay off.

Michael Wilbon is a big deuche bag...Seriously. If you guys really want to know who is horrible at evaluating talent....it's Wilbon's boss. He sucks arse. You guys remember the cartoon the "Glow-worms" in the 80's? Is it just me or does Wilbon look like one of the Glow Worms? LOL

Agreed, we will not know until 2 or 3 years from now. Wilbon has his opinion just like everyone else, somebody will be right, but not today.

+1. i totally agree. i'm tired of all the hammy probs. total turn over would be ideal in the scouting depo.

Yes, we should all be patient. I think all the concerns are way premature.

On Scouting, one rumor is that the FO of the past just did not listen. It also seems Allen is more of an influence that people first thought he would be.

How would we know if scouting was a problem when draft picks were trade to assemble "Team Madden".

After the way Wilbon threw ST under the bus when he died, I don't care what his opinions are. He obviously doesn't give a crap about the Redskins and probably hates having to cover them, except to inflame the fan base.

We finally have a decent GM in this town, after what 15-16 years? He and Shannihan are a TEAM evaluating talent. Being a team makes for compromises and hopefully will reduce the number of poor picks.

The other angle is the prior draft picking "team" that included an owner (who has ZERO NFL experience)/ his boot-licking, syochophant pseudo GM's (perhaps one of the worst GM's of ALL TIME) and one of the worst Head Coaches of ALL TIME.

This team of Allen and Shanny may not be perfect but it is an NFL-caliber program many levels higher than the amateur and buffoon talent "evaluators" we had before. In two years they will repair and rebuild a 9-year neglect of the OL.

If the Shannihan/Allen team had gone to Wiborn's beloved Bears he'd be calling them the greatest FO team since 1986. The best WP writer is Bosewell. He has a historical perspective and is very level headed in his writing. He also loves the Redskins.....

Lol. I am baffled at why he wouldn't go work for Chicago newspaper.

Why, because you think sportswriters want to cover the teams they follow as fans? That would be about the worst thing I could think of.
