2010 Draft Pick: Trent Williams [Merged]
Quote:
2010 NFL Draft: Pick 4 – Trent Williams, OT, Washington Redskins
Topics: Fantasy Football, NFL, NFL Draft
Protecting McNabb's back?
The Washington Redskins have selected Oklahoma OT Trent Williams with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Fantasy analysis: The athletic Williams will likely protect Donovan McNabb’s blindside in 2010 and beyond. Versatile, Williams can play left and right tackle, so Washington has flexibility on their side.
Fantasy owners have a muddy situation in the Redskins’ backfield, but Williams is a well-rounded blocker in both the passing and running games. He should be Week 1 starter for the ‘Skins on the left side.

I preferred Okung. He is a better and more consistent pass protector and a safer choice. Williams has too much bust potential, did not always play up to his ability. We cannot afford to blow this pick, so I would have gone with the safer choice. I am glad we got a left tackle, and will defer obviously to Shanahan's evaluation of the 2 players. Okung is a terrific athlete, but Williams is probably a little better and may fit our scheme a little better.

This almost exactly what Mel Kiper said. I hope you're both wrong, lol

Uh, Shanahan was able to hand pick his left tackle. He actually knows better than anyone here or on espn about this stuff. If he wanted Williams, then Williams is the guy.

If they didn't draft an OT I was fully prepared to shoot my TV. I'm glad they did the right thing.

And to think I actually believed they might have thought about drafting Berry. I can just imagine what I would have done.
Anyways, I'm glad we brought in a tackle, and one that they believe fits our scheme. So I'm glad in that regard.

I was hoping that this thread would be about the player and not about who we did (or didn't) pick.....
Thoughts about Trent Williams, are we happy with the pick?

i think williams is a lot more of a well-rounded athlete. shanny will know exactly how to mold him into his ZBS system. i was supremely happy that we drafted him... even over okung. okung is safer, but i think williams has a lot higher of a potential ceiling than okung.

More upside
According to all scouting reports that I read, Williams has more upside, more athleticism, greater versatility and fits Shanny's scheme better than Okung.

I'm happy we got a lineman, but I really preferred to trade back b/c none of the OT felt worthy of the #4...
But we definitely got Shanny's guy so now it has to work.

I don't mind this pick but I'm not sure he is worth the 4th overall. I think with the a pick this high you have to get an impact player that should be a perennial probowler. I don't see it with Williams. I hope I'm wrong.

I said it in another thread but Williams will get welcomed to the NFL on Sunday night football against Demarcus Ware. Hopefully they get him well coached up by that game if he is gonna be the starter at LT.
