Signing is no big deal ..... As a few have indicated - probably won't make the team ...... Allen trying to give an old player one last shoot - that's cool.

A lot of speculation in the responses here...but it is another clue to how Shanahan is going to operate... (I just wish I could figure out the clues )

Taking a 38 yr old over an UDFA isn't getting younger, a stated FO objective. Puzzling.

He played for the patriots last year and as i recall was expected to do well with Brady throwing the ball. He simply couldn't hold on to the ball. Dropped quite a few and was cut.
To me this doesn't look good on our young guys if you ask me. If our WR's weren't a problem there would be no reason to even try him.

We signed Bobby Wade as well. Wade could actually make the team. To me this is an indictment of our young WRs. Bringing in all of these savvy vets tells me that Shanahan may not like what he has seen so far out of one or both of our 2nd-rounders. I don't think they signed just to be camp fodder.
Joey Galloway is so old, he was drafted on a Tuesday.

Wade had a couple okay years in Minny, but if Shanny was worried about Thomas/Kelly I do think that he would have gone after a starting caliber guy(Holmes, TO, Kevin Curtis, etc).

No doubt. We do this every offseason. We brought in Derrick Mason and Roydell Williams in the past....extra reps and helps the team out. Then they get the axe when it's crunch time.

Agree. He would also been more active in targeting UDFAs. This is a hedge against injury (Kelly's knee?) and to start an in-season rolodex IMO. His UFA acquisitions seem to establish a vet floor (lots of DTs to find a NT in case Kemo doesn't make it thru the season) rather than relying on untested rookies when the games count.
