Default New Documentary: "Brothers of the Legacy" - 7/24 on NBC4 in D.C., 7 p.m.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just finished the latest Redskins Broadcast Network documentary. Been working on it for the last five months. It's called "Brothers of the Legacy," and is about Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff. It chronicles their early life, their time with the Giants and Eagles, their friendship that started when they were traded to the Redskins, their time playing together under Lombardi, and of course their broadcasting career. It's a bit of a tear-jerker at times.

I got to do the interview with Sam for the piece. What a character that guy is. At the end of the interview, I said, "I have to admit, Sam, I was a little nervous talking to you," and he says, "Why, you didn't have the ball!" Classic line I'll always remember.

Anyway, the documentary is actually going to be shown this weekend at FedEx Field on the gigantic screens for a private function, so I'll get to see those big boys in action earlier than anticipated! And then it will air next Saturday.

Some belated good news ... the last documentary, "The Legacy," won an Emmy last month, so that was cool!

Anyway, just a heads up ... hope you'll tune in as football draws ever-closer...

Awesome news, WWD! You've worked really hard and have earned all of your success. I couldn't be happier for you.

An Emmy?!? Holy cow dude that is awesome!

Look forward to seeing the feature on Sonny and Sam. Out of all the things you guys could have made it about, that is a great choice.

Any love for us out-of-market folks? Will we get a shot at it soon?

Thanks, everyone, appreciate it!

I imagine they'll post it online at some point, unless a fan beats them to it.

One of my favorite clips in it is Sonny interviewing a very young Dick Vermeil in 1976 after Vermeil's first coaching victory.

Sonny used to broadcast games for CBS television before he joined the Redskins radio broadcast.

Who knows how much longer these two guys will be doing this together, so it's a nice insight into their relationship.

Did you get a chance to interview Frank at all for this piece? After all the years they spent together in the both, I suspect he'd have some valuable insight on the Sonny-Sam dynamic.

Yep, Frank was indeed interviewed. There really is only one section that deals with their radio career. The rest is about their playing days. But Frank is in there.

I didn't do the interview with Frank, but he told a funny story about Sonny that couldn't be used. Apparently a guy came up to Sonny and asked for an autograph for his friend and had the nerve to ask Sonny to sign it, "F-you, Sonny Jurgensen." (Of course, the actual word was spelled out). Sonny happily signed the autograph that way. Man, would I love to have that!

Default Pics from documentary screening - Big screens in action

Just wanted to bump this as the air date draws closer and also post some pics from last Saturday's screening of the documentary for Sonny and Sam and luxury suite holders.

It was kind of an odd way to watch the piece, but it all turned out great. For starters, the documentary is not in HD, so, as you can see, the picture was quite stretched. No one seemed to mind, though, and we got used to it. Also, we were watching from one end of the stadium (which was PACKED, as you can clearly see ... OK, about 400 there), so the screen was a little far away.

But once it got started, I have to say ... VERY impressed with these screens, ESPECIALLY in a nighttime setting. They are so amazingly bright and vivid, and that was with SD content. Can't wait to see all the HD stuff they're putting together. As darkness settled midway into the show, the screen looked awesome, and cast very cool reflections around the stadium.

No, it's not as big as Dallas', but it is a HUGE improvement, and I think people will be really pleased with these, especially at night games. Really improves the experience.

As to the show, it was very well-received, which was really gratifying. I got to sit near Sonny and Sam and talk to 'em, as well as Sonny's wife, who's incredibly sweet. It was great watching their reactions to the show and hearing the crowd cheering and laughing at all the right spots. Sam really turned out to be the star of the piece. That guy is just hilarious. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not, but hilarious just the same.

As it ended, everyone gave the two guys a standing ovation, pictured below. Sonny and Sam both thanked me and seemed overwhelmed. They both loved it, and Sonny's wife gave a very heartfelt thanks, too. A really special moment.

Anyway, I hope you guys will check it out this weekend. Once again, Saturday at 7, NBC 4. You're going to be really pleased with those screens Sunday night against Dallas ... they should add a lot to the atmosphere ...
