A lot of years for a 31 year old OF with one All Star appearance to his name.

Why didn't they just pay to keep their own guy who was a fan favorite? This makes zero sense. This may go down as one of the worst contracts ever.

For half the years and more than half the money.

I like the move if for no other reason than to send a message. I'm sick of the Nats having a reputation for not trying to be a contender and making money via small payroll. This isn't a small market. Time to stop acting like it.

Thank you. And those of us who watch the team know Dunn is massively flawed - tons of Ks, terrible situational hitter, no defense, etc.

I will remind you guys you said that when the Nats say they can't afford to go after an actual good player in 2-3 years because they were burned so bad by this deal. If you want to spend to make the fans happy and not really make the team better, pick the lumbering home run hitter.

Not sure about making the fans happy, but Werth makes the team better.

Thankfully Washington isn't Pittsburgh. We should still be able to pick up this "actual good player" you speak of, even after signing an All Star

The trade off was Werth over Dunn. If they are better, it is only slightly. I can't figure out how or why Werth is suddenly considered so great. If he was already on the Nats putting up the exact same numbers, no one would know who he was.

And given that he won't be hanging out in the lineup with utley or howard, he won't come close to duplicating those numbers. I like the nats attitde here, but they seem to be spending just to say they spent.

Dunn or Werth at basically twice the price.

Is Dan Snyder running the Nats as well???

Dunn and Werth are not remotely comparable as players. Werth steals bases, has a decent average, and fields his position. Dunn is a statue, hits for RBIs, and ought to be a DH.

I read that the Nats payroll after Dunn left was about $40 million. Now it's roughly $58 million. Are you saying that having a payroll 1/4 of the Yankees is too much?
