You can believe that if you want to. We're complaining about 13 million immigrants here illegally. Reagan amnestied 4 million. Hard to claim that he didn't grant a lot of illegals amnesty since he did and the bill specifically was passed to do that.

He didn't make being here illegally legal. That's what you wrote.

Everyone knows what I was referencing with what Reagan signed into law. If you want to be this simplistic, I can't stop you but don't get bitchy when I keep things simple for you so you can't do this shuck and jive anymore.

My shuck and jive? Is it different from your "Obama is never wrong because a Republican once did something" that you pull? Get over it. The guy sucks and I will always point out why.

Please don't put words or thoughts in my mouth/brain that I neither say or think. Thanks.

It also helps that for the most part Obama has been The Deportation President.

This was enough to get me out of lurking mode for a minute. The claim is crap because he hasn't said it on the campaign trail? Even though it's true? So you're saying that what a candidate campaigns on is more important than what they do in office?
I guess it would be better if he aggressively demonized immigrants while in practice tiptoeing around enforcement to keep from upsetting the business interests that employ undocumented workers. Sounds like the GOP platform. You just don't often see such candid support for that.
No guarantee that I'll be back to continue this debate so feel free to accuse me of sniping, but I couldn't help but say something there.

this country has been betrayed by BOTH the left and the right on the immigration issue for their own selfish interests..

More that there's too many people who have a financial interest in illegals telling both parties not to take away their labor supply. Look at what happened in Georgia and Alabama when they put up their illegals laws: agriculture came to a halt. South Carolina passed an illegals bill but put in so many exemptions that no one's going to bother to try and enforce it. Its not just a southern thing, if you kicked out the illegals, every restaurant in a major city would shut down.

No, I dispute the numbers claimed too. On one hand there is the claim that there have been more deportations than before and the other is the claim to protect the illegals (undocumented extended vacationers for those who are more sensitive).

The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), a data-gathering, research and distribution organization at Syracuse University, reported last week that the number of deportation legal proceedings initiated between October and December 2011 fell by 33 percent from the previous quarter.
|
Like everything else, Obama wants both sides of the coin. He wants to act as if he is tough on immigration and also that he is a champion of illegals. Shocking that his amnesty idea came during the election year.

I really think what Dave is getting at is the fact that Obama has spent some time pandering to the Latino vote, he won't dare mention his deportation rate on the campaign trail. That's how I took the comment anyways.
Edit: Nevermind, I see Dave addressed it himself.

Another liberal website:
Quote:
But does the Obama administration deserve all the credit -- or blame -- for this record? And is it actually as impressive as it sounds?
Critics say no to both questions, and charge the administration with creative accounting.

Too bad people will buy it too since he failed on most of his promises from last time and Thursday looms at a giant slap in the face.

Exactly. In a lot of ways Obama has been a pretty lousy Democrat.
