I had to turn the England-France game off. The standard was pretty poor apart from one or two of the French Ladies. I gave the Germany-Japan game a try as well after and that was better but not by much.
It all reminded me a lot of non-league football here in England.

There really are only 4-5 teams that are watchable. My wife and I watched the first half of the opening match and were appalled at the passes. I will watch the U.S. team but really won't make a big effort to watch other teams. Still, as far as women's sports goes, soccer is closer to its male counterpart than most.

+1
I will watch a US team play just about anything even if I could care less about the sport at any other time. If we had lost, I probably wouldn't have watched past that. Watching the U17 World Cup was more intriguing to me.

That match was epic. It's so rare to see a team rise above so much and win through sheer determination.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this tournament, though I have been watching girls play soccer for some time now, it still looks like good soccer to me. The woman play just as physical and don't flop nearly as often as their male counterparts and they don't play that "launch the long ball and run after it" stuff. I think the women have put on a clinic on shooting PK's.

Hubbo watched the entire game, I watched for the first half, but tired soon. Couldn't stand all the dramatics by the Brazil team. If they don't continue on in soccer they might all have promising careers as Broadway stars.
PS: Hubbo, like so many others, is smitten by Solo...and who could blame him....

I finally got a chance to watch the full replay. Shame, shame, shame on the Brazilians. What a pathetic showing of dramatics from a country that historically displays the beautiful nature of the game.

People think she looks like my wife. I can see a slight resemblance but not a big one.

They played much more like a Columbian men's team with the flopping and bad sportsmanship.

Solo has more of the crazy eyes, but I can see the slight resemblance.

Two mistakes by Waumbach that has cost the U.S a couple of scoring chances. Twice there were breakthroughs on the wings and twice she made incorrect runs leaving no angles for a pass. She has to try and drop off her markers somehow instead of darting to the middle and playing right into their hands.

Still proud of the USA women's team, but damn. Their play was sloppy on goal defense, and it burnt them. Btw, prevent defense in soccer, is much like prevent defense in the NFL. It sucks.

The weakness of this team was the Center Mids, Lloyd and Boxx. Not even mentioning their pathetic PK's in the end, the entire tournament we had no attack from the middle and those two consistently gave up possessions with horrible passes. Lloyd took a ton of shots that went half a mile over the net and it was predictable she would sail her PK today.
Congrats to Japan. They played beautiful soccer throughout and made the most of their limited opportunities today.
Edit- Changed title of thread.
