Default 2011/12 NBA season...lockout hell

this could be the season thread if there is one, but I want to state on record that I think the Player's union acted stupidly in the negotiations. By choosing to disband the union so late in the process (as opposed to the nfl who did it immediately) they all but guaranteed a lost season.

That means older teams like my Celtics and probably the Lakers are done. But also what happens with the contracts and the 2012 free agency is very important now as 2012 could be like 2010 in terms of big star re-alignment

I pretty confident there will still be a shortened season.

its possible but I think the owner's latest offer was pretty fair and the player's union is pretty fractured. I don't see much different coming from the owners anytime soon.

Don't believe the hype from Mr. Doomsday. We've got a 6-8 weeks to get something done and preserve a shortened season. The owners will play with the free agency stuff and get this done. In the long run the owners stand to lose even more than the players if an entire season is lost.

some of the owners.....some of them were losing money already.

This is starting to look more like the nhl lost year then this last summer with the NFL.

I say it gets done in four weeks.

Perhaps a wager?

I enjoy catching a Wiz game here and there...but if the NBA didn't exist anymore I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The college game (especially in March) is so much more compelling than the professional game.

How was it fair? By moving from 57% to 50% of the BRI the players give back 3 billion dollars. AND the owners want the players to capitulate on system issues which limit the available teams they would be able to sign with or seek trades from.

You can argue that fair or not the players were dumb not to take the deal or you could say they're moronic for not trying to further negotiate by making a counter-proposal; but calling this deal fair for the players is a stretch at best.

Also, the owners are just as fractured. All the big market teams are not happy this has gotten to this point. This is a huge clusterbleep. Both Stern and Hunter need to go.

This. The free agency component of the "50/50 split" offer would have cost players millions of dollars when they signed that second deal.

I would say the deal before, 57% was a horrible deal for the owners, and unlike the NFL, the NBA had serious revenue issues and a big hit by the players is necessary. The bwhole max contract/soft cap deal is an abortion that was made in the salad days of the NBA revenue wise and unsustainable with their current market share. This is like the NHL and hopefully the players wont need a lost season to accept the deal.

With the give back in BRI and increase in revenue sharing the NBA teams could more than handle the system issues as it is or even a tweak in favor of the players and still come out in really good shape. Even the dregs of the league could turn a profit; you know, if they werent such dumb**** The NHL was a dying league. The NBA is nowhere near that.

I actually agree with you that the players should have taken the deal. They are getting screwed, but not to the point its worth losing a season over.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and they get something done. Kobe injected himself with stem cells in the offseason, and by all accounts looks 22 again. I wanna see that, very badly. The Lakers were gonna trade for Dwight Howard for chrissakes! I wanted to read people crying about that!

With the Redskins once again a laughing stock I need the NBA to help ease the pain.

this is what pisses me off,. now for years after the reddskins when the Celts were irrelevant I had little places to go (I am not a baseball fan) but once the big 3 were assembled I enjoyed, right abotu now, following celtics blogs and starting to figure out which crazy ass deadline trade Danny was going to make.

I would casually watch the NBA, watching Knicks and Nets if they were on but never really caring since we had Nets season tickets back in '03.

That being said, I haven't missed the NBA for a second. I think this hurts them the same if not more than the NHL's full missed season. March is the only month I really care about any level of basketball anymore.
