I'm glad we were lucky enough to get to see him play. Hope you're enjoying it up there, Sean.

I hope his memory doesn't fade and become one of those "old folks" memories about that time when...I hope he will always be remembered for the player and person that he was.

So much promise, and he was just maturing as a player and person when he passed. Best player Skins have drafted in maybe the past 2 decades. To think what Area 51 could've been.

You'll always be loved ST

I had an interesting exchange on Facebook with a Cowboy fan today. His status update was:

Quote:
for those dumb deadskins fans that refuse to move on and accept life n death just thought id let u know this Sean Taylor is DEAD and not coming back (not that it would help ur team anyway)...he is rotting away in a box 6ft underground with millions of bugs eating him...GET OVER IT...he died what? like 5yrs ago...Cmon man!!! u wanna remember a player worth a damn remember Pat Tilman who gave up the NFL to fight n die for his country...hes worth remembering...not a wanna be thug...u ppl r pathetic
To which I replied:

Quote:
It's a free country, say or feel whatever you like about Sean. You don't get it, though. From the first game he played as a Redskin (2 INTs and a TD), we could all see an incredibly talented but reckless player. For every huge hit or jaw-dropping interception, there seemed to be a blown coverage or personal foul to balance it out. He was also somewhat of a knucklehead off the field, running with the wrong sort of people and getting into some legal troubles we don't fully know the details about. For three seasons, that was basically who Sean was; one of the most talented and undisciplined players in the league on the field, a bit of a knucklehead off it.

After he became a father in May of 2006, he started to change his life. He distanced himself from the bad influences, focusing on his family and profession. By the 2007 season, you could see the hard work paying off. He was finally living up to his potential, playing free safety better than anyone in the game and making a strong case for defensive player of the year honors. And then, while rehabbing an injury at home in Florida, four armed teenagers decided to rob his house. Sean, following the terms of his probation, didn't have a gun to defend himself. Instead, he took the bullets to protect his family. They lived, he died. His daughter will have to grow up without a father, which is the real tragedy.

I can't speak for other fans, but to me, ST is an example that if you're willing to put in the effort, you can always turn your life around. I remember him as a supremely talented player that had finally figured out how to properly use his abilities. I wonder just how good he would be today, with four more years of experience under his belt- having no doubt he would be regarded as the best safety in the game. The Redskins are terrible and as fans, we have virtually nothing to root for. I hate everybody on this team, not named Kerrigan or Fletcher. But Sean was our DUDE. He was the guy that scared other teams. He was the guy we could point to, no matter how bad the team was playing and say- at least we get to watch Sean play. It was our favorite thing about our favorite team, and it was taken from us just as it was getting really awesome.

So, that's why we remember Sean. It's not pathetic, it's just sad. We miss watching him play. If you're not a fan, fine, but talking authoritatively about something you know nothing about only makes you sound, well, ignorant. But that is certainly your right, if you choose to exercise it, though I think most of us would prefer if you wouldn't spit on his image- at the very least.
And his response:

Well put Jon...ill take my place now..
There had been quite a bit of bickering and name-calling in that thread, so his last response was quite a shut-down. I call that a win

Wow, immense immaturity and plain mean spiritedness in one post, and thought provoking maturity and intelligence in another, well done Jon.

Thanks! There were a lot of other less thoughtful responses I had to resist the urge to type before arriving at that one haha.

Wonder how he would have felt about tanking for a draft pick.

Probably the same as he'd feel about trolling posts.

Well stated Jon.

I am sorry that you encountered a complete buffoon from my side of the rivalry. Unfortunately I guess all fan bases simply have their morons in them.

I definately have nothing but great respect for Sean Taylor.

I have never spoken to you before, but I have read many of your posts. You are a class act. Thank you for your kind words. You're right, all fan bases have their morons. I look forward to reading more of your posts and possibly interacting with you.
