September 30 - Tampa Game
So the question I am grappling with: September 30.....Do I pony up and go to the game? Chances are it will be blacked out on local TV (which means blacked out on D-TV as well...still havent' decided whether or not I will purchase Sunday Ticket this season)
Pros:
My money won't be supporting Dan Snyder directly
Raymond James blows Fed-Ex away in stadium experience
Tickets will be cheaper
Will be home within an hour after the game ends
Can take my kids to their 2nd Redskins game
Travel is 25 miles vs. 950+ miles
Cons:
My money would directly support the Glazers
September in Tampa is like July in DC, only hotter
Tickets will still be expensive, especially if I take the kids
It looks so far, as if the pros outweight the cons, but it is one I am going to have to give some thought to. I think there is an 85% chance I will not be able to watch this game on TV due to a blackout. It doesn't feel like this town is any more excited for a Greg Schiano team than they were for a Raheem Morris team, but the Bucs were active in free-agency so the fanbase may be excited.....hard to tell, right now it's all Rays all the time which is an easy team to get excited about.
Obviously one thing that would sway me is if a bunch of HR folks wanted to get together for that game in Tampa.
This was originally a post in the Schedule thread, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder about interest in a possible HR Road Trip get together.
Would there be any interest in that? I know it's early, but these things go better when there is plenty of planning.
Flave, if you can make the trip across the Pond, you have a place to stay man.

I think the pros outweigh the cons by a mile. Go and cheer RG on, but don't get into any fights. You might have heard, Fla has this "stand your ground" law.
As for your Rays, I think their window is closing fast. As with most small market MLB teams that can't afford to retain their free agent star players, Tampa has only a period of 3-5 years to contend. Isn't that 3-5 years about up? If you want to cheer for a really good young team rapidly on the rise, try the Washington Nationals. What a pitching staff!

My Rays? I am a Nats fan and a fan of all things Washington. I do cheer for the Rays, because I hate the Yanks, Sox and O's. If the Nats and Rays meet in the Fall Classic, I am Nats all the way.
But I disagree with you. Nobody thought they would contend last year after losing Crawford among others to free agency, and they just bring someone up from their farm system and keep going. I was hoping the Nats would steal BJ Uptoon away from the Rays but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Since it's not an Eagles game, I seriously doubt there would be a fight. It's the only time I have ever really come close at a Skins game, but someone in my section had the Filthy fan removed.

My bad--I didn't realize you are a Nats fan. I share your disdain for the big market teams which try to buy their way into the playoffs every season. I call the Yankees "the evil empire".
If the Rays can continue to replace their lost free agents with quality young players, then they can avoid the closing of the window. I am not convinced that they can, but I will reserve my judgment.
I believe Upton is not yet a FA, and the Rays asked too much for him in a trade. If he is a FA after this season, the Nats will surely be in the thick of things trying to sign him.
I am shocked at just how good the Nats' starting rotation has been. I expected it to be good, but I had no idea that it is this crazy good. Hopefully, I didn't just jinx them.

I'm thinking of possibly going myself, live down in Fort Lauderdale and would like to go to a game, I haven't been to a game in a few years now.
I'll let you know if I decide to go.

You gotta go Sean. I would love to see RG3 as a rookie, that is why I was so gutted at the Preseason schedule and not being able to go to a game in DC.

Speaking of the Rays; HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumble's most recent episode has a segment about their Manager. I definitely recommend checking it out.

Please do. The more I think about it, the more I would like to see some folks from the board make the trip. It would be great to have an HR style Tailgate at Fed-Ex Field South. (We pretty much take over Raymond James at least the last few times we played here)

Yea I probably will. My father was talking about coming down for it and like I said earlier, the game is likely going to be blacked out locally.

I'm working on going to this game ........ the big issue will be tickets because I'll probably be in need of 4 or 5 (good seats). My nephew want me to come down regardless for a get together to watch the game .... wonder if he realizes that there's a chance it will be blacked out.
Also working on a road trip to the New Orleans game .....

I knew we had a member in Oralndo, but for the life of me I couldn't remember who. I am glad you chimed in.
I am thinking of perhaps trying to organize a tailgate in Al Lopez park, which is a very short walk to the stadium. I definitely want to see what kind of interest there is in that sort of thing.
Pat, if your nephew lives in the Tampa Bay area, he has to know that a blackout is a distinct possibility. I think only 2 or 3 of the 16 home games played the last 2 seasons weren't blacked out and one of those was in London.

You can get 100 level seats for as little as $75.

I will be there since I live 4 miles north of Raymond James. I'm hoping that the 4:15pm start time helps with the heat. I plan on getting good tickets since I usually have to spend money on airfare and hotels on top of ticket prices.
