But why didn't we have a first round pick in 1996. Well, that' because we traded it to the Rams for Sean Gilbert. And not only that, is was the 6th overall. To our credit we did later trade Sean Gilbutt to the Panthers for two first rounders.

And 3 picks before we selected Andre Johnson from Penn State the Ravens selected Ray Lewis. Sigh........ Is it any wonder we've been a doormat since 1991. Uggg

we actually didnt trade Gilbert.. the Panthers were stupid enough to sign him as a free agent and when the 2 teams couldnt come to an agreement as to compensation for him the league awarded the Redskins 2 first round picks from the Panthers.. i think they never expected to have to pay full market value, but you have to credit Tagliabue for doing right by the Redskins in this case

God told him he was supposed to make 5 million a season or something like that. Seams cheap by today's standards. From what I remember he sat out a season. We franchised him and the panthers signed him. Thus we got the two first round picks.

Desmond Howard. I nearly broke my TV when this announcement was made. We could have selected BPA with our first choice and selected Carl Pickens later in the 1st round, who was far more versatile than Desmond.

I seem to recall at the tiime of the selection, people were saying Desmond Howard was a great choice and would continue the legacy of the posse.

Does 3 2nd rounders qualify as a 1st rounder? It does based on the value chart.
