Robert Griffin III open thread (RG3 starts getting serious media props after week 6)
(The mods can merge this if they wish, but today is like the third time this week I've come upon a general Griff story and couldn't find an obvious thread in which to share it. I figure an all-purpose thread will get some use over the next few weeks.)
Anyhow:

Following his declaration for the NFL Draft, Griffin hired an attorney. Thereafter, he created his own company, Thr3escompany, LLC and submitted applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a total of four trademarks – RGIII, RG3, Robert Griffin III, and Unbelievably Believable. The first three trademark filings were made for “Shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pants, shorts, footwear, hats, caps, athletic uniforms.”

Yup, very smart. There's already a bunch of RGIII merchandise out there, with some bearing his likeness. It's very possible that he's not seeing a dime on the sales of this merchandise.
While he's at it, why not trademark the "Washington Griffins". He becomes a legendary hero, and the team changes its name using my avatar as the helmet design.

Does each player now get a percentage of Jersey sales? I'm curious as to how the split will be affected, if at all, when it comes to official NFL paraphernalia.
None the less, seems like an astute move to me. He's a very intelligent young man. At least smart enough to hire good representation.
If he can back it all up on the field (as most of us hope and expect) I think it's entirely possible that he rivals Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods (pre-scandal) as the endorsement king.

It's a good idea to start a general thread. There is going to be a lot of RGIII stories that come out, especially in the coming weeks and months with OTAs and training camp not far away.

Do they offer any of his socks out there? I wonder if they will offer them in "soccer style" socks. I love rocking those at the gym.

John Clayton proclaims that Robert Griffin III will be the rookie that has the greatest impact on his team over all other rookies.

Race car driver and noted Skins fan Dale Earnhardt Jr. weighs in on Griff:
Quote:
|
“I’ll be honest, it’ll be hard to expect him to match what Cam Newton did last season, but I expect him to be consistent and put up great numbers every week. I think he’ll come right out of the box. He’s got a good receiving corps. Hopefully they’ve done enough on the offensive line to protect him and give him the chance to throw the ball and get the ball downfield. But everybody, all the Redskins fans especially, are going to be watching every single preseason game looking for, you know, glimpses of hope in every throw he makes and every pass he makes. It’s going to be exciting and I’ll be waiting for fantasy football to crank up and looking forward to a good season from the Redskins.”

That's just wrong. Are you standing by that statement? It appears you are either mischievously having fun just to cause trouble, or you have developed an appetite for CROW.
