Default Skins will move training camp to Richmond

Rick Snider thinks this means no more than a 2-week camp, as the Spiders will need the field at that point.

For someone that lives about 40 mins from Richmond, I must say that I'm super excited! Now maybe I could make it to a practice for once in my life.

I've been on record for years saying Richmond (or even tidewater VA) was the perfect place for camp. The coastal/central/sw portion of the state is still very much "Redskins Country" and there are no other local teams that have mooched off the fanbase like Phily/Bal have.

Richmond is actually a shorter drive than the one we used to take to Carlisle....and it is right off I-95.

Not to mention, it is closer to the fanbase in NC....

And finally, no matter where the location, I always thought a camp away from Redskins Park was better for team morale and focus.

Richmond welcomes you!

Richmond is maybe 4-5 degrees warmer than the DC area during the summer.

Never been to DC in August, I take it? lol.

It's going to be miserable in either place, but I am happy they are getting away from the comforts of the Park.

As Terry Robiski so aptly put it "Guys need to smell each others' feet".

YES!!!!! Love it away from DC! Richmond is a little closer to me too, so that is a plus.

It has been to convienent for fair weather fans just looking for something to do.

So much responsibility... When they finally make the move, I will gladly give some training camp reports on the days I attend.

They still haven't found a permanent location yet. City Stadium is the front runner but that is a dump of a site. I was there last week for the DC United vs. Richmond Kickers US Cup game and the site needs a lot of cosmetic work. Not to mention there is only the single field...and parking seems limited.

Univ. of Richmond built a beautiful new facility not too long ago, but I'm guessing the Spiders will actually want to use it.

Either way, I'm just glad camp is going "on the road"...and I'm even happier to know it will be down here in Richmond.

I'd love to complain that this took way too long to happen but at least they're making it happen. Good timing also.

Since it's for 2013, I won't be too alarmed, but Geez, you would think that little detail of where to practice would have been the first thing worked out when making the decision to go there.

We had heard rumors of Danny visiting sites here in Richmond about 2 months ago, so its surprising they don't have anything nailed down for the press conference.

Put it this way, Keino...the Spiders used City Stadium for football games for 80 years prior to their jump to the new place last season. The place is old....but the good news is that the grass field is still in great condition. The City/State is helping fund the renovations, but City Stadium needs a TON of work. I'm not sure what other options they have.
