Default Projecting RGIII's Rookie Season

link

What are your thoughts?

Based upon the vaunted ESPN rankings, RGIII will be personally responsible for 24 passing/rushing touchdowns. They are, also predicting he will throw 18 picks, which is 2 fewer than Rex last year.

I'm not sure what to take away from this, but If we factor in 16 rushing touchdowns (by running backs), 2 field goals per game, and 4 combined defensive/special teams touchdowns for the year, you are looking at roughly an average of 25 points per game.

If we had the ability to score that average last year, we would have wrapped up the NFC East. I find it interesting that pundits are assigning these stats to RGIII, and predicting the Redskins to be dead last in the NFC East posting a sub .500 record.

Stats don't always win games, and I know my reasoning has holes in it, but I can't shake the sense that the pundits are going to be in for a surprise.

Jeez, another RGIII thread? Is this necessary?

So, this wouldn't fall under the RGIII Open thread?

I guess I should start a projection thread of how many calories he eats a day? And then another one for how many times he uses the restroom per day.

Hopefully he will be a Cam Newton season like and more where that has come from. As he seems really smart as well.

I felt this topic was a little different from the RGIII open thread, but I have no problems with a moderator merging this into the "Open" thread.

There isn't much else to talk about other than RG3 until camp, so a separate thread just about his projections is fine with me. At least this way, we can look back at this thread a year from now and see how off we were...lol.

I don't expect him to have a Cam rookie season...nor do I expect something terrible like a Blaine/Stafford rookie season. Something closer to Dalton, I'm guessing...right around the 20TD/16INT, 3,300 range. RG3 will get some stat padding from rushing yards/TDs, although i have no way to predict those...

I don't think he'll throw that many picks............ He's too accurate, even on the run........... Not that he won't throw any picks, but 18 is just too much........ And I think he plays smart football, so even if he's running from the pass rush and is getting ready to be sacked, I'm sure he'll either (a) take the sack or (b) try his best to throw it at a lineman's foot.

i think he'll throw more than 18 pics cause he is a rookie, rookies tend to do that more.i am thinking we will be 8-8 at best.

Some, but Griff's not going to be a short-yardage option like Newton was, so he won't finish with very many rushing TDs.

I'm mostly concerned with the completion percentage. He's a rookie and rookies throw picks, but if he's completing passes at a nice clip we'll know we got our man.

I'm sort of expecting an Andy Dalton-like season. I don't think he will do nearly as much with his legs as Cam did due to the fact he wants to be known as a pass-first QB.

While true...I could also see some designed bootlegs in which RG3 can show his speed on the outside rushing the ball. I don't think he will be as effective as Cam/Tebow inside the 10s rushing, but I'm still expecting some scoring on the ground from him.

What if he made the cut golfing at the US OPEN?

Would that be in the 'OPEN' thread or a seperate thread of a QB playing golf?

I think most of his long runs will be due to pressure. I just don't see them taking the risk of an injury by sending him out to run. For some reason I don't see him being as effective a runner as he could be because the coaching staff will try to keep him from doing so.

A few years ago, the NFL network ran a 1980 or same game between the Skins and Giants in the Meadowlands. The Skins had never won there before. With about 30 seconds to go, Theisman scrambled and ran it in for the game-winning TD from 35 yards out. That's what I want to see from RG3.
