I was there today, in the raging heat. I only caught the first hour, then I had to leave but it was a "light" practice. The temps were in the 100's F but there was a strong breeze every now and then.
RGIII definitely stands out. He has that superstar aura about him, that I challenge anyone that see's him in person to deny.
During the passing drills, it was immediately noticeable how much faster his passes hit their targets compared to Rex's. The QB's were split into two groups, RGIII and Rex in one and Cousins and Crompton in the other. With each group's turn the two would simultaneously drop back and fire a pass to their designated receiver. Not only did RGIII's passes arrive to their target faster, every time, but on the longer dropbacks, it was ridiculous how much faster RGIII had his feet set, in direct comparison with Rex. I only saw RGIII throw one bad pass and it was in the very beginning. Basically, it wasn't a tight spiral, it was a bit of a wounded duck. Other than that, everything he threw was a laser, with the exception of the beautiful rainbow bomb he threw to Garcon. I hope to see that many more times this season. Bottom line, it appears that RGIII can throw bullets and touch passes with great accuracy. His potential ceiling is not bound by this planet.
I can't speak on much more in any detail. Whoever is wearing Sellers' #45 let an RGIII bullet rip right through his hands and damn near disturb the defensive practices on the far field, lol.
Cooley, Hightower and Hankerson all appear to be 100% healthy and fit. It may be just in comparison with the new slimmed down Cooley but Fred Davis looks bigger.
Mike Shanahan was paying more attention to the receivers than anything else. It looks to be quite a battle for spots going on there.
That's about all I got today, but I plan on being at a few more practices, so I will pay closer attention to more specifics, especially if anyone here has any interest in certain position battles.

Thanks for the report.
And glad to hear Cooley looks healthy. I think he's going to be critical to the offense this year.

My only issue with this is that they had better have a ram in the bush...they knew brown wasn't ready. I'm not getting upset but they should have just cut the chord with this guy. I'm sure they will be watching to waiver wire for a RT. I'm sure someone will be cut soon from another team.

Loved that movie. Starred Vanessa del Rio, Nina Hartley and Jack Napier, if I recall correctly.

I am also in the doubters camp concerning Brown. At this point, I not only doubt his health but with the time removed from performing at a top level, his ability to regain that form or anything close to it.
I plan on paying close attention to the OL/DL battles at the next practice, so I'll report on what I see and who stands out on each side.

Seriously, how can you not like this kid? How can you not be excited about him?
I have been trying my hardest to not get hyped up about this team the last 5-10 years, but he is making it awfully hard.

Right tackle is going to be a big problem all season. A shame we waited until the 6th round to address it. Polumbus looked pretty solid there at the end of last season and Willie Smith certainly has some talent, but I wouldn't rely on either of them. What in the heck are the Skins gonna do?
|
They also have James Lee who they picked up this off-season from the Bucs who's got experience at RT. Guessing he'll get plenty of opportunities with Brown out.

Totally forgot about him. He is a solid backup.
I read that Polumbus did not look so good yesterday.

Shally,
I just did a little research online about torn hip labrum. I am amazed that it is even possible to surgically repair this injury, shy of a total hip replacement.
I'm very concerned about Jamal Brown, but equally concerned about Hankerson. Do athletes every fully recover from a torn labrum and return to full speed? It would seem to me that Hank is one bad cut from re-injuring himself. Am I missing something here?

Some do and some don't recover. Marshall apparently had one and he has been a very solid wr
I think that browns issue is more serious than a labrum and is compounded by the necessities of playing the line. I think he is done

The Brown thing is just stupid we knew he was done last season this charade is undermining this season. What could the braintrust have been thinking.
