hell I'd rather have portis than benson. portis in pass protection could be a real asset protecting RGIII, but i don't think he would be able to carry the load. the again, who will? we don't have much at RB again. hulu is not the answer. ryan grant would be a possible good upgrade

Fortunately we don't need much. With the upgrades at QB and WR the running game should face fewer stacked defensive fronts. If Griff and the O-Line do their job the running game will have plenty of holes for the guys on the roster.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Shanahan puts Hightower on the regular season PUP list. It could be why we are hearing rumors of us interested in other veteran backs on the free agent market. If Hightower is limping after runs where he doesnt get hit, whats he going to do when he does get hit or another teams player takes him down at the legs...

Why go with a handful of unproven guys? We drafted Morris and he has a 4 year deal. We invested in Morris, unless he is absolutely horrible then he will get a good chance to make the roster. we kept four RBs last year and 2 FBs

This will have to be proved. Teams are going to force RG to win games.

I really think Royster is being overlooked...does he have great measurables? No...he's not gonna blow anyone away physically...but there is something to be said for his vision and patience in following his blocks...I like him a lot

I've got faith in Shanny's ZB scheme. It's worked time after time, so long as there aren't complete scrubs at QB and WR. If RGIII is better than Rex/McNabb and the WRs are better than the last two units, we'll run the ball well this season.

that is a good point, but to do that teams are gonna have to stop our rushing attack, which was pretty good late last season. I'm also certain there will be times when that happens and teams will force RG3 to win games

I agree. Royster seems like a guy who can carry the load as well. He did so in college. When he was drafted a lot of people said he wasnt going to break the big play for you with any regularity, but that he was always going forward and getting yards.

third year in the system, im expecting our running game to be money this year. i will be extremely disappointed if we struggle to rush the ball this season.

The thread is about Benson specifically, so I was only addressing that. I'm taking a flyer on some young guys over Benson and irrespective of the options on the team. I would rather sort through a few young backs than Benson, who offers no upside.

Agreed. Royster doesn't stand out in any physical direction, but he steadily makes plays.

im not as worried about it as some. i do worry about right tackle, but not the line as a whole. this is the 3rd year in the scheme, i also expect some cohesiveness especially in the run game. guys just need to stay healthy though...
