Spurrier Back In Play-Calling Mix ~ ~ ~
Redskins | Spurrier Back In Play-Calling Mix - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 18 Nov 2003 07:27:35 -0800
Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier indicated he may want to reclaim all or some of the team's offensive play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. While Spurrier gave no definitive announcement, he said "we'll talk about that" when asked if he needs to be more involved with the play-calling. Spurrier said Jackson did a good job in Sunday's, Nov. 16, game against the Carolina Panthers, but did not commit to leaving the arrangement intact for a third consecutive game.

Friedman I still like and he may be better than Moore but he blew an assignment big time sunday leading to a sack.

Big mistake. Looked to me as though the biggest problem with the O was Ramsey had a bad day. He definately looked like he had more time and the offense looked a lot less disorganized than before.

I say again, just like before. The problem in Carolina was conversion in turjnovers, execution of plays, Ram being off target and Rock fumbling at the one. These problems are not from Hue's play calling. Ramsey still had more time, much more time, than any game that SS has called since defenses found our weakness.
As far as Friedman, I will be surprised if he starts. He blew a major hit that led to Ram's interception. Moore woudl not have allowed that hit.

I think he needs to start putting his two cents back into the offense. But Hue Jackson should remain the play-to-play guy for the offense.

Hopefully Hue will still have a lot of input during the game.

Spurrier's play calling stinks! He needs to stay out of it. But then you gotta wonder what they're paying him for if he can't even do that right...maybe we need a poll to determine what else he could do to earn his pay? Shag drinks for the luxury boxes? Make sure the Gatorade is mixed just right for the players? Towel boy?
Sigh. Still feeling bitter deep in the heart of Texas.

If I was SS, I'd keep Hue right next to me on the sideline, even if he does decide to call some plays. Hue seems to be a calming influence on SS.

OK boys and girls, here’s your word problem for the day:
IF, Spurrier calling the plays results in poor execution of the scheme.
And IF, Jackson calling the plays results in poor play calling.
What will be the result of Spurrier + Jackson calling the plays. (you do the math)

Aside from that idiotic quarterback sneak called on third and goal from the nine yard line, I had no problem with Hue Jackson's play calling. It's not his fault that Ramsey missed two sure touchdown passes or that Gardner dropped a 50-yard completion or Rock Cartwright fumbled at the goalline in the worst offensive play of the season. In all those cases Jackson had the right play called, but was betrayed by the incompetence of the "talent" on the field. Spurrier will do no better. He might do a lot worse.

I don't really care if Spurrier calls the plays. but he must, repeat must, get rid of that damn visor.!
I didn't think Hue Jackson did a poor job. But once again, impatience rears its ugly head. Will no one on this team give something some time to work. It's all what have you done for me right now.

I agree with Robert, lets see some teamwork and energy from the HC and OC. Players will feed off it! It is ridiculous to have SS standing there with looking awkward. It is a team effort that wins! I bet they balance each other out well. It does not have to be one or the other, let Hue call it in but they quickly decide standing together.
