I don't think it was a question of Offending people. It was a matter of inclusion. Nothin PC about that. Recognizing that not everyone celebrates the same holidays and bestowing wishings of holiday cheer on ALL people is admirable in my opinion.
By saying Merry Christmas only, there is a whole section of people on this very board that would've been excluded from that salutation.

But the problem is that you aren't allowed to say Merry Christmas. That's the thing. Just so you know RamaHanuKwanzMas was a Glenn Beck thing and that is the song they sing. It has everything to do with being PC. 96% of Americans celebrate christmas. I should be able to wish anyone I want a Merry Christmas and then in turn they can wish anyone a Happy Hanukah(sp?), Happy Kwanza Whatever. The point is if I celebrate a holiday I should be able to say that to everyone I want as part of my celebration. But NO, the 4 percent that don't celebrate Christmas throw a fit and you can only say Happy Holidays. Well for crying out loud what about the people that celebrate no holiday. I guess you can't say anything to anyone. That's how things are becoming. You can't say anything anymore.

jp - You are 100% correct... and Glenn Beck is the best!
It doesnt matter to me what the 4% say... I will continue to say Merry CHRISTmas as loud as I can every year. I refuse to give in to the fabricated PC machine.

And you are still free to say Merry Christmas.
I say Happy Holidays on a Public Mssg Board, becuase I want to include EVERYONE in my Salutation, without making 5 seperate posts.
I'd be interested to know where you gentlemen are getting your 96% figures from, or was that just a made up number to illustrate the point that the Overwhelming Majority in this country are Christians? That figure suggests that 96% of the country are Christians and you can't possibly be selling that idea...........
I personally do not celebrate Christmas (Though my wife does, so I guess I do partially as well), for to me this is nothing but a Christian adaptation of a Pagan Holiday. The Evergreen Tree was actually taken from the Pagan ritual, but I digress. My point is that it doesn't offend me to hear "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hannukah" or "Happy Kwanza" or "Happy Ramadan" (Though I've never heard that one and have plenty of Muslim friends). Saying Happy Holidays just includes everyone in your well wishing.

Yes Keino, but thats not the point of RamaHanuKwanzMas. When I'm dealing with a customer at work, I can't wish them a Merry Christmas. I should have the right to say I hope you have a Merry Christmas. But you know what. You can't say Happy Holidays even because some people don't celebrate anything. This PC crap is ridiculous is my whole point.

I agree with you Keino... no sense in offending people. BUT - I think it is the offense that is offensive. Christmas doesnt HAVE to be about Christianity. It CAN simply be about love and kindness and unity, etc. BUT - there are people who need to be combatant in something... so Christmas is their pick.
I never said anything about 96%... but I also continue with the challenge to show proof that this country wasn't founded on Christian virtues. It was... and an overwhelming STILL claim to believe in God. (What that means is hard to say).
If someone has the right to choose NOT to believe or celebrate Christmas (as you do), then the others should have the same right to choose to celebrate it. That is why I say "Merry Christmas"... it is my choice.
When (if) we ever return to a nation ruled "by the majority people", we will see these stupid made-up holidays and PC nonsense go away.
There is an organization called POOP - "People Offended by Offended People"... it is growing by leaps and bounds. Seems most Americans agree with it.

Well Clearly I misuderstood the intent of the original post. I took it as Skinz wanting to wish EVERYONE a Happy Holiday, whatever people happen to celebrate. I appreciated that. I took it as "Im known to be a follower of Christ, but I wanted to wish EVERYONE no matter what your faith a happy holiday"
I see now that the intent of the post was to complain about political correctness. I still do not understand why you feel you can't say "Merry Christmas" to someone. Nor do I understand why if someone doesn't celebrate a holiday, they would be offended when someone wishes them a happy holiday (in this case Merry Christmas). Why couldn't they simply respond "I don't celebrate Xmas, but thank you". Not sure what kind of work you do Jporter, but I know that I was told to have a Merry Christmas numerous times over the holiday by some cashier or service provider. I didn't get bent out of shape over it, because the person giving the salutation means well. So while in my case, Happy Holiday would have been more relevant than Merry Xmas, it as they say is the thought that counts.
I guess I don't understand why you feel you cannot wish someone a merry christmas.
