My take on Steve Spurrier...
First off, let me admit that I have been one of the biggest supporters on this site for keeping Mr. Spurrier in DC for at least one more year. It’s been a tough year to be a “Spurrier-Supporter”; especially since the “Spurrier-Supporters” are usually the first ones called out for any large or miniscule fault of the team. (Regardless if the blame is sitting squarely on the shoulders of the Old Ball Coach or not) However, that goes with the territory…so I’m used to it.
I've seen enough glimpses of greatness in this team to believe that SS could regroup this team and better them next year. (No matter if those glimpses were few and far between the negatives this year) I also don’t believe there is a Lewis/Parcells-esque coach available that can GUARANTEE us a turn around next season. As I've mentioned before...for every Lewis and Parcells success story...there are far more Mariucci, Erickson and Del Rio stories. So I'm resolved to the notion that Spurrier may be the best chance to improve this team by next year’s end, simply because of his tenure with the players...and their growing familiarity with his tendencies.
That being said…
I have loyalty to the team, first and foremost. I bleed as much burgundy and gold as the next die-hard fan…and I defend “My Skins” valiantly to those to oppose them.
Which leads me to my point…
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to propose that Steve Spurrier isn't happy. I’d be more worried if he wasn’t unhappy. To paraphrase the familiar TV commercial phrase; “To suggest anything different would be uncivilized.” Anyone who has back-2-back losing seasons can't be elated about his performance. Regardless if he is "happy" or not...if his heart isn't into the betterment of my team, then I have a problem. I am not close enough to the situation to truly know if Spurrier has lost his heart to coach this team. If not; then I expect Spurrier to come back and do what is needed to better this team. If so; then I urge the Old Ball Coach to either quit or work out a buy-out of his contract with Mr. Snyder.
So…despite a lot of “sources” saying Spurrier is going to be the next coach of the Dolphins or Tar Heels next year, I am still standing by my coach. I am still one of the so called “Spurrier-Supporters”. However, I charge him to do what is best for the team...regardless if he stays or leaves. After all, my love for this team runs deeper than any one individual.

Nice post DJ. You have been consistently behind the Ol'BallCoach and I respect you for it, just as much as I have been for axing Spurrier. I respectfully disagree with you, but, well stated, great job!

Nice post DJ.
The turning point for me was the Saints game. Up to that game I was all for Spurrier returning one more year. But, during that game it just came to me. I realized that he may not be the answer for the Skins. He doesn't know how to make half time adjustment. And his Gator coaching staff doesn't know how to either.
I hate the constant turnover we tend to have. But this one is needed and I'm expecting it....one way or another.

Surely a new coach will not guarantee a turnaround. There are no guarantees. The question is whether or not a turnaround is more likely under Steve Spurrier or under a different coach.
I have to ask, though, DJ: What are the signs of greatness that you've seen this year?

I want Spurrier out of DC, but I still don't think we will ever be successful with such a corrupt owner.

I said I've seen "glimpses of greatness". Not signs.

Are you looking for an argument, Spence? Because if you look at my original post...it is not intended to invoke such.
A "glimpse" is a "A brief, incomplete view or look." I saw some instances this year in which the passing attack was at its best. I saw some instances this year in which a balanced run/pass ratio was called upon. I also saw some instances this year in which we ran the ball amazingly. Those were the brief "glimpses of greatness" that I would hope to see more frequently next year.

Looking for an argument? You said you'd seen glimpses of greatness. I just asked what glimpses you had seen. That does not seem particularly argumentative to me, it just seems like a natural question, especially in light of a 5-11 record. Whatever those glimpses might have been, I certainly agree with your characterization of them:

Spurrier sucks.
Spurrier doesn't seem to have a clue anymore, if he ever did. He's clearly out of his league, outclassed, and overmatched.
He seems lost, bewildered, and quite simply ready to move on to the next thing.
I hope he's gone and soon, because if he stays on we'll see another season go down the tubes in ignominy and reproach, just like the past two years have been.

''Well, gee gallie shucks.'' I'm sorry SS needs to go. If he comes back next year this team might go 3-13. I stood up for the man too long. He don't know what he is doing. I will say it again this team has tallent the should win more than 5 games.

It does suck that we might need to start over again regarding coaches. I think that stability is one of the most important missing ingredients for this team, and was a loud critic of dumping Marty after one year (despite his record in SD, he brought some toughness and consistency to the 'Skins) for that reason.
That said, you have to ask the question: What makes anyone think that Spurrier will do a better job next year besides wishful thinking? He got the players he wanted and the team is worse despite the better talent. Keeping him around because "it would take an extra few years to get better with another coaching change" is more likely "another year down the drain, then a few years to get better with another coaching change".
