Kellen Winslow
The Redskins seem to have cooled on Kevin Jones and Steven Jackson...I think the rumors about Kellen Winslow Jr. there are starting to look more and more factual. With Gibbs running the show now getting a tight end seems essential and I don't think the Skins will pass. I was told by 2 scouts what their perfect draft would be....Winslow in round 1 and Randy Starks slipping to them in round 2. My sources told me they consider their draft an A+ if that happened. They have spent a lot of time looking at interior lineman for middle round picks.... Jake Grove has their eye at center.
New #2 tight end? – It is a known fact that the consensus #1 tight end on the board will be Kellen Winslow Jr. and it has been common knowledge that Ben Troupe of Florida was #2 and possibly a first rounder. With Troupe electing to not come to the Senior Bowl he left a few teams rather angry about the no-show. Ben Watson may now slide into #2 at the tight end spot on a few teams boards. His pass catching skills have been solid but unspectacular. Watson has excelled at blocking, he probably has more “pancake” blocks than half of the lineman in Mobile this week. His blocking has been very solid and no matter where Troupe goes Watson has moved into the 2nd round.

I am still not sold on taking a TE with the 5th pick, then I think of the impact of Shockey on the Giants offence. We have some tough choice come draft day. Draft day is going to be very interesting. I have a feeling the Redskins are going to be wheeling and dealing.

I was thinkin the same thing....shockey is probably the best te in the nfl even though hes also the biggest faggot. And also Winslow is the BEST te the NFL draft has ever seen. I think this is a done deal....if hes there at the 5th (which he will be) hes comin to washington and will be an allstar his rookie year just like shockey was....its the easiest pos to do it.

Shockey to me is the reason we should draft Winslow. He is the number one reason the Giants offense was so good a year ago, and his absence explains why they were so poor this year. I almost get goosebumps thinking about Winslow in a Redskins jersey. And I don't think he has a bad attitude, I just think he is a 21 year-old, immature young man who will grow up to be one heck of a leader. He hasn't had any Lawrence Phillips/Najeh Davenport - esque moments.

If we are shopping for luxury items from Miami, I would rather we take Sean Taylor, who could cover a Jeremy Shockey. We have plenty of receivers and I don't think Gibbs throws to TEs that much. I must say that as long as our d-line gets rebuilt, I would not mind having either. Troup is not going to slip...hot air, hot air.

blah...
i think i've come to my conclusion about the draft. We trade down to the bottom end of the top 10 and take what's available.
Harris, Jones, Winslow, Taylor, Udeze... whatever... one of those guys will be there at 9.
Let the other teams make the choices and we'll get someone and extra picks later.

Winslow, Taylor and likely Jones and Udeze will be gone at 9.

Exactly... then the pick is Harris and an extra 2nd and 4th
you can throw starks on that list too. If there are 6 players we covet that should be there at 5, we can move down to around 10.
and most mocks have plenty of players slipping. Are you saying that Roy williams won't be a top 10 pick??
There are other players out there that will push some of these players down.

Harris sucks. 34 tackles and four sacks: let him be someone else’s bust.

You cant look at his stats from college......the fact is hes got a great NFL d linemen body and Mel Kiper says hes gonna be good then he will be.

I agree that Winslow is talented but probably a bit overrated, we need to draft a stud DE and a DT or 2 early. Gibbs builds his team around the front lines. He wants the TE to block 1st and foremost and catch some passes (usually in short yardage or around the goalline). We can probably pick up a decent TE on day 2 or via Free Agency.

Well, when deciding taking a player with a top ten pick, what are you supposed to do? Look at his potential, or perhaps just listen to that certified draft genius, Mel Kiper? No, this is a top ten pick, no silly stuff. If he can’t deal with double teams in college, he is not going to be able to handle a pro guard or center. He does NOT have a DTs body and needs to add 20 pounds or will likely be moved to DE. He does not produce; take him at 20 not 5. I would love to take stud DTs, but they are none in this draft.

I agree he isnt a top 10 pick....but he is the best DT in the draft...unlike last year their arent a lot of great d linemen in the draft. Thats why the skins will pass. And take Winslow with the 5th.

I think you can look at stats but most importantly you should look at game film. I haven't seen enough of Harris (other than his very unimpressive showing in the Championship game) to judge. But, I'm a bit leary based on the stats. Great lineman bodies and tools don't mean diddly when it comes to being a force in the D-Line. Right now I think Udeze is a better pick for us.

Some players hit their stride right off the bat, but some players take a couple of year. Harris might have a higher upside than Taylor, but maybe they didn't start at the same point. Just because one player starts out as better player doesn't mean he will always be better. I recognize Taylor's athleticism and all that, but with an NFL weight regimen, Harris could get huge. You just can't see for sure.
