Default The Hot Corner

little somethin somethin from the Birmingham News
Quote:
It's been 12 years since the Washington Redskins won the Super Bowl, but it won't be long before the Redskins are back in the hunt.

Once again, the 'Skins are doing a wonderful job of stockpiling offseason talent. The team grabbed a former All-Pro in quarterback Mark Brunell, late of the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Brunell may be on the backside of his career, he is still one of the top 15 quarterbacks in the NFL. The 'Skins added an All-Pro running back in Clinton Portis and a budding star in former Alabama and New York Giants defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin.

But the biggest move by far was persuading Joe Gibbs to patrol the sidelines again. No offense to Steve Spurrier, but the "Genius" didn't quite understand what it takes to build a winner in the NFL.

And while it's been years since Gibbs has coached a game, the recent successes of Dick Vermeil with Kansas City and St. Louis and Hubie Brown with the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies are reason enough to believe that better days are ahead in the nation's capitol. With a little more defensive help, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the playoffs as soon as this year.

I liek the moves that have been made. They have brought in some excellent young veterans at the costs of draft picks that woudl eithe rone, not pan out, or two, take a few years to pan out. BUT, I just wish we would readdress the DLine. Griffin was an outstanding move. Daniles is greta depth, but he is not a fix it at DE.

At least 1 of 1000 apparently browses the same threads as you, and alot of "us" are just fans of Joe Gibbs football--you might have gathered this from the sentence immediately following the one about Griffin.

Well he has to write something good sometime. Alabama football has fallen on some very hard times as of lately. The Bear is cussing up a storm in heaven right about now. They still are fanatical about Paul Bryant as we are about Joe Gibbs. Everyone loves a winner.

It's all about the coaching guys. We finally have that. Had we not got who we got, I thought the signing of Gibbs and co. MIGHT have been enough to make a playoff run. With all these guys we are sure to make it. If I had money I'd head down to vegas right now.
